UNDERGRADUATE COURSES
Bachelor of Engineering (Sustainable Energy)
Bachelor of Sustainable Engineering (Environmental Systems)
The ANU undergraduate degree in engineering has a University Admission Index of 85 to 90. A thorough general background is provided, with units in physics, maths, computing, law, economics and business management. Students choose engineering units in the areas of energy & thermodynamics, materials, electronics, semiconductors, telecommunications, photonics and mechatronics. In fourth year students undertake a research project in an area of their choice. Many students undertake a combined degree over five years (for example Engineering/Science, Engineering/Law, Engineering/Economics).
Named degrees were be introduced from 2002, reflecting the choice of units by the student. Two of the named degrees have an environmental flavour:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Sustainable Energy)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Systems)

The ANU's Engineering Department draws on the skills of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems and other departments at ANU to provide units in the following energy-related areas:
- Semiconductor physics and technology
- Microelectronics
- Thermodynamics and fluids
- Photovoltaic solar energy conversion
- Solar thermal energy conversion
- Solar thermochemistry
- Solar energy technology
- Sustainable energy systems
The Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSES) is a member of the Australian CRC for Renewable Energy. The CRC is developing courses for delivery via the Web.
CSES is part of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.
The Australian National University is Australia's largest research University. It is composed of the Institute of Advanced Studies (70%) and Faculties (30%). The IAS accepts postgraduate but not undergraduate students. The Faculties are like a normal University, and accept both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems is part of the Department of Engineering in the Faculties.
