Why LED's?

Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) are the future of lighting!

	Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) convert about 90% of the electrical power into light. An LED light with about 1.5 Watts emits approximately as much light as a 40 Watts incandescent light bulb (for example a halogen desk lamp).
	LED's run at a low and save voltage, at around 3 Volts.
	LED's generate very low heat and are therefore not only efficient but save to touch.
	An LED lasts for about 50,000 hours. That means, it can operate for about 10 years continuously without replacement. In comparison, a normal incandescent light bulb lasts only for no more than 1000 hours.

In order to compare the cost and efficiency of different light sources, one has to consider all costs for running a lamp: electricity, maintenance and replacement costs.

The table below provides a comparison of energy efficiency and the total costs for running incandescent light bulbs (such as halogen lamps), fluorescent tubes and LED lights. The comparison is based on the assumptions that an LED lasts for 10 years, while a normal light bulb lasts only for a maximum of 1000 hours.
